How It Started
The origins of the Empire Scramble can be traced back to a dynasty fantasy football league started in 2015, made up of old and new friends from all over the country. It became an all-encompassing group chat of nonstop banter. Eventually the bragging and shit-talking had to be settled on the course. Our first in-person event was a 3 team scramble in 2021. We ran 40 yard dashes to determine draft order. We're too old and injury-prone to do that now, but the golf hasn't gotten any less competitive.
How It Keeps Going
Since most of us in the core Empire group were originally from Wisconsin or Minnesota, the scramble has rotated between the two states. We invite our golf-interested friends, and once we have a good round number for teams, we start the draft. Captains are typically the best players (lowest handicaps), but this year we decided to flip it and make the worst empire members captains.
Rules
- 4 members per team
- Each player takes a shot, you can choose which one to play
- Players may drop their ball within one club length of the chosen ball, as long as it is in the same cut/lie. For example, if the chosen ball is in the bunker, you cannot drop out of the bunker, even if it's within a club length. Same goes for the rough.
- Each team must use three tee shots from each player
- Overtime should be settled by a playoff hole if possible
- No mulligans or gimmes
